In the spring of 2023, the Center installed a community garden at the teepee site along the trail. This project was a true collaboration, made possible thanks to:
- A grant from the Walmart Foundation
- Donations from local businesses
- Generous contributions from individuals in the community
- Walmart and Center volunteers
- DOCC-Cape Vincent
The garden was coordinated by Center volunteer Michelle Gaeta, who skillfully organized volunteers and resources to bring the project to life.
A Community Effort
The raised beds were installed and planted by Center volunteers and volunteers from Watertown Walmart – State Route 3. Seeds and transplants were grown by the team at DOCC-Cape Vincent, making this a team effort across the community.
Though the garden has not been active in recent seasons, it stands as a testament to the community spirit and collaboration that brought it into being.

A New Chapter ~ Coming Soon
In 2026, the community garden will begin a new chapter as a medicinal herb garden under the care of volunteer Bailey Schryver. Watch for more to come!
